Any differences between GTI grille and non GTI grilles...

Hi folks, hopefully you can help as you will know a lot more about this than me!

I am looking for the best possible airflow through the front grille and was wondering if a proper GTI grille is more 'open' than others.

I have 3 grilles (all single light with the hole in the middle for the badge) but they only allow airflow through the centre as in between the slats at either end, it is solid plastic.

I wondered if I have 'CL' type grilles and if a GTI grille did not have the solid plastic inbetween the slats I could potentially save myself a lot of time having to carefully open up the solid type.

The grilles are the same (ie blocked off at the sides, only the centre area open) except for the red trim surround on the GTI one, the GTI badge and the VW badge being black.

I have one more question though - I have all the badges, but the GTI square badge, it looks the same as a MK1 badge, but could it possibly be early MK2 as the prongs on the badge are at a different angle to the slats on the grille and so they do not really fit/clip into place  :dontknow:

If you look at my sig you will see the grilles on my cars. They are both chrome trimmed but one is more open than the other.
