Another Cabby Leaky Roof Story

My 92 cabby has quite a bad leak and I'm not sure as to how the H2O is finding it's way in. The roof is in what seems to be good nick, no holes or splits, all the doors meet the seals etc. Funny thing is that now I've taken all the carpets out, I can see that the standing water is a very dark brown colour. I'm worried that my good roof is actually porus and that water is filtering through the horsehair mat. Is there anything I can put on my black vinyl roof to give it a helping hand? Has anyone else had this problem with the "dark water"?

Cheers
Chris

Check all the seals where the folds on the roof frame meet really well, as although they might appear to be good, they might be letting water through. I think they're fairly easily replaced.

As for the dark brown standing water, my old cabby had that under the carpets when it had been leaking. Not sure why, but is it possible that it's just picked up old muck from the carpets??

Even if this isn't much help, it's a free bump back to the top - someone might know more!

Good luck

Check under the bonnet, at the back ( under the wipers area ) either side there are drain holes, mine were blocked ( unblocked by Bert ) water came in through to the carpets  :dontknow:  now they are clear there are no leaks

Leaky cabby

Many thanks for the advice, as soon as it stops raining I'll get to grips with it.  I should have known better than to buy a cabby living in the "rainy city"

Cheers

you need to find where the water is coming in from.

sometimes the tops of the windows are too low and don't meet the seals on the roof properly.

Also water can get through the plastic plugs that insert into the frame that hold the rubber top seals in place.

yes roofs do become porous over time, but i would check the drain holes under the bonnet inside the scuttle panel as suggested.

you can also buy seals that fit between the rubber sections that meet against each other when the roof folds down.
I had a really bad leak and had to do all the above.
I glued a piece of neoprene rubber to the header seal and the last seal of the roof. This worked for me.
