Am lost without it

Hi there, first post so be gentle.  Put E Reg, Clipper into local garage for new hood  (said he had done one before) and after lots of chat decided to spruce up bodywork.  This was 9 weeks ago, have now been told hood impossible to fit, will have to get somebody in at a cost of ?175, also cannot get rear window or seal for less than ?191.  Would have asked supplier of hood to fit it if I thought there would be a problem, been without car all summer and getting frustrated   as was told the job would take a couple of weeks, sorry, off on a tangent, reason for post is can anyone advise on rear window and seal as hoping to find something cheaper.

That price for the frame and seal sounds about right for new genuine bits. I think VW can charge what they like cos no one else is making them.
Think I paid something like ?140 for the frame and ?60 for the seal

2nd hand is probably the best way to go, but rust free frames are fairy scarce. You can probably get away with using your old seal, is it in good nick?

Hopefully that guide will help the garage fit it. Hope it works out ok.

Cheers,

Ross

Have just rung garage and asked him to hold off ordering new frame,  he told me the guy was coming to fit the roof tomorrow, how can that be so, if, we havn`t got the frame ?  garage man saying he WON`T fit the window at later date as worried about "cutting",  really can`t understand why he offered to do the job in the first place.  Tempted to say "don`t bother with hood or window". Thinking now might have to sell the car.  :(

contact car hoods direct or car hoods northern - and get a quote for fitting including the frame.  Tell you garage to stop all work - i would really be concerned about them being involved.

Am back with update…..Rang "garage man" ask him to cancel "hood man " as wanted to find second hand window surround first, also asked for breakdown of work done,  said he would phone pm,  has phoned,  bill scary,  but "hood man" was in area, had a look at window surround and told "garage man" not a problem, surround needed a little welding (?) he then  proceeded to fit most of the roof and is coming back am to finish.  Am chuffed  :D   surround ok, but one other query…… "garage man" broke windscreen when removing for weld and respray, and billing, is that standard.  Thanks for all advice, can`t wait to have her back, will post a pic if I work out how. Cheers Cabrieulait,  might have needed your help if things hadn`t worked out today.   Hood already half fitted by professional, who "garage man" had arranged previously,  I was worried about window being done at a later date but "hood man" says surround is ok, so will be fitting window tomorrow, didn`t need to cancel…. lucky he was in the area (Hayle) or I would still be searching for surround, I know I hadn`t planned to pay extra for hood fitting, but am glad in a way, at least I know its been done properly (famous last words).  Where r u at ? Not "mate", rather "matette" (?) C
