aargh got a leak

Well a lovely day today, rained all day nice :?  had to go out earlier, got in car and wet seat.

think ive found it though looks like its getting in from where roof meets top of window at the edges, looks like rubber seal not been fitted correctly at some point and has lifted at the edges, its either that or the roof isnt tight enough, i checked the rubber seal and it looks like its been fitted with sealer and not glue.

does anyone have any suggestions for sticking it down or other ideas on leak

best regards

chris

it generally make much difference if you tighten up the handle hook its generally the rubber seal my brother-in-law has the same problem and its driving him mad looks like he like you needs new rubber seals

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?

hi chris, if your roof is leaking near the roof handles, there should be a draft excluder type of seal, under the rubber seal? i'm sure i've read a link on here about it? it could even be in the 'how to' section? worth a look, good luck with it mate,  :) , al

if you replace the foam seals and it is still leaking its likely to be getting through the actual stitching on the hood itself just over the handles. thats what mine ended up being and since then a mate of mine had the same prob

If the water is getting in as stated then you will need to adjust the windows so they fit properly, the seal should press gently onto the glass and slightly depress forming a seal, there is also a little shaped seal that fits between the first 2 roof rubbers. Also you may need to refix the first seal that presses against the header seal to make sure that is water tight. As metioned the foam seal gaskets that fit under the seal retaining strips, these are often a source of problem. Lastly how old is the hood and whay material is it? Vinyl becomes porous over time and lets water in that way.

hi guys, thanks for info, the hood is 2 years old with no tears or damage, the rubber seal thats lifting at edges is on winscreen part of car (if that makes sense) where the roof meets the screen, gonna have a better look today and post findings, if it helps it only leaks when it rains lol
