83 Cabrio roof leak
Anybody experienced this?

I had the problem but mine was due to the hood being old, as they get porous and the water seeps through and collects in the frame arms (like a channel) at each side and run downwards towards the handle area and thats where the water leaks from.
Did you put some sillicone along the front 2 metal seal holders before you replaced the seals, especially around the front first fixing screw hole? you usually come back a couple of inches.

Had the roof adjusted, silicone added to the front part of the frame and all seems ok now.
Also the front part of your roof (where it sits on top of the front window) isnt fitted right.
Its meant to sit flush onto the window seal.

I did explain in my reply.
You need to remove the first 2 rubber seals that contact the widows when you close the roof, you will of allready done this as you have changed the foam gasket seals.
The sillicone is applied around the first front screw hole and back approx 2 inches.
I would say your roof is poorly fitted as Norm points out it does not sit flush with the top of the screen.
To be fair it's shockingly bad fit.
It need re adjusting to fit properly, no wonder it's leaking fella, there is no seal between the roof and the header seal.

It's easy just knowing where it goes.

solved
i simply removed the new gasket seals i had fitted, which were still leaking. i then ran a generous amount of silicone all the way up the line of the gasket and refitted the gasket and screwed down to the silicone bead and hey presto no more leak
thx everyone

Also covered it with 2 coats of Fabsil too, Didn't take much as its a vinyl roof so the 1L tub i got should last a long time.
All fine now though so no more wet legs.

Fabsil is meant for fabrics and not for plastic coated fabrics.
Grangers do not reccomned using Fabsil on a vynil roof.
The solvents in their product can attack the plasticisers in the Vynil causing delamination.
I got some the other day for my Mohair roof which was just soaking the water up.
The manufacturers of the hood materials Harrtz, recomend using Ragg Topp products.
Aerospace 303 is recomended for vynil roofs.

Can I ask did you get your car from E bay?
There was one listed as a Cocco Channel which they are not. Still a myth that gets perpetuated.
Just known as the Christmas Cab.
Proper Name Lady Charme, Lady Sunshine and Mister Moon depending on body colour and trim.
I like the CC and looked at a couple a couple of years back.
There was some CC bits on E bay recenlty the CC headliner and seat cloths too.
I wonder what they used to colour the roof with?
Reckon it would be a hassle to clean it off, again you would need a strong solvent, that won't attack the plastic underneath. Xylene for instance.

I dont know what they used but its a shame because its the original roof all 'CC' embossed, when i was cleaning it bits of the blue appeared but i think its just some kind of back to blck style coating, I have seen dye on ebay for Vinyl so i may end up having to dye it black again. I'd like to keep it on as long as possible because i wont ever get a 'cc' roof again.
wouldn't mind some spare seat covers though missed that on ebay.

Is yours a CC?
Should be around 85-86?
Yep it's a shame to me as I like things standard, but everyone has there own styles as to what they want to do to a car that reflects thier personaltiies, etc that's what makes all the cars so good.
There is a headliner CC and sun visors with CC on E Bay at the moment. Just put in MK1 Golf CC, should get you a hit.

Car is still in its original colour Alpine white, i have the original bumpers in my garage as my brother fitted it with a big bumper kit years ago.
I have seen some of the 'CC's on ebay and when you see the pics they have been completely raped of all 'CC' embossed interior parts making them just a normal cabrio.
