76 window trims

Hi all,
Just starting out on the mk1 path, looking for a base car to start building on. A few of the 76-78s I have seen all have their window trims (yucky chromed bits of plastic) hanging off in all directions. Is this normal? can it be 'fixed'

The yucky bits of chrome in the window rubbers are still available from VW but would be wise to renew the rubbers also at the same time rubbers not so plentifull though and if in good nick on the car dont throw em away without gettin hold of new ones or you will kick yourself
