4 button GTI steering wheel, what is it from?

I have a 4 button steering wheel with the centre section marked with 'GTI',this is coloured in blue. Has the colour been added since new or is it original; the leather covers part of the spokes, I have been told that this may be rare. It fits small spline column.

Can anyone tell me anything about this wheel?

The leather covered wheel is probably from a capaign Mk1 Gti, though the centres are interchangeable, so it is likley that the middle is either from another model (Early Monza Blue Mk2 maybe?) or maybe it has just been painted very well?

I'd go with al, but the only thing i think of that has blue trim of that era was a mk2 syncro with g60 engine, like an edition 1 or a rallye without the wide arches but i'm not sure of the name. It had blue grill trim, and VW motorsport badge on the grill and other bits but looked pretty stock.

Chances are someone has painted it themselves, probably off a helios blue campaign but if by a stroke of luck its off that mk2, it is one of 50 made and i'm sure only released in germany, making it like the holy grail.

Hope i don't offend anyone on here but don't you just hate it when when people tart up their helios blue campaigns with that tacky flourescent blue dress up stuff, do they not realise the blue doesn't match!!! :dontknow:
