2k primer recomendation

I need to a 2k primer in an aerosol so I can seal my repairs from moisture,  I have no idea what I am doing.  I've read around and from what I gather 2 k primers are non poruous to moisture. The primer must also be iso free.

I would appreciate hints, tips and recommendations from those with more knowledge and experience.

After 12 months of welding I'm just about ready to fill and paint.

2k isn't availbe in an aerosol i don think as you need to mix the 2 parts together to get them to set

the best this would be a zinc primer (weld throu) or a red oxide to protect until you spray over it

2k Aerosols

Mipa do some "Activated" rattle cans:

Not tried them myself, but I use Mipa paint all the time…

Keep us posted if you try it out?

UPOL do some good cans, it is all about the pressure, and the nozzle/fan
Bare metal needs to be etch primed. Search for UPOL etch primer. Halfords do it actually. It is available in 1 litre tins if you want to spray it with a gun.
Then you can add extra protection with a high build primer (again, UPOL), and flat it back to perfection with 800 wet/dry
Ready for the topcoat!

PS: Worth using a 'fast degreaser' to clean the panels before painting. Reduces the risk of contamination, and a cleaner surface will give the paint the best chance of adhering!

I've seen the mipa but after a bit more searching I have discovered that 2k pimers can also be pourous and have decided that i need a 2k epoxy in an aerosol like this one

http://www.spraymax.de/index.php?id=351&L=1

or this one

http://www.rustoleumibg.com/images/documents/VK9300%20System_RO-09_2295990.pdf.

I'm scared of dying so need a non-isocyanate product.  I am uncertain whether the spraymax or rustoleumibg containes isocyanate.

The following does not but can only find refernce to it on american websites

http://www.rubber-seal.com/Editor/assets/tds/RS-586_tech.pdf.

Plan it so seal my deeply distorted joins with metalised filler.  Treat bare metal with jenolite to get it absolutly rust free, degrease and seal with epoxy primer.  Do finer filling work ontop, prep so paint man can put color on the car.

I need the epoxy primer because the car is 150 miles away and I can only work on it on weekends here and their.  The car is undercover but in a damp place so I need to do a bit seal it with epoxy and move on to next bit.

I have almost finished all my welding (18 month) so have broken the back of my resto.  Filling… painting…. drive…so close

If your just wanting to stop it rusting temperearly then red oxide is fine as long as when your ready for etch and high build primer you rub it off first.
Main dealers do a aerosol red oxide but not sure on price.

You'll be OK with a good quality respirator in a well ventilated area, it won't kill you!

Spare yourself the headache of giving it any more thought mate, give the guys at Jawal Paints a call in Smethick, Birmingham.

They have about 40 years experience behind em and the owner still works on the counter.

They sell everthing related to welding, bodywork and painting vehicles.

Great bloke he is, does next day delivery, mail order, internet offers and what he doesn't know about painting cars aint worth knowing, he's got the lot and his is the company that hundreds of professional body shops buy from..

I just bought 5 litres white primer, 5 litres Diamond white (Cellulose), 5 litres of primer thinners and 5 litres gloss thinners with tack rags for less than £100

My idea is a good quality face mask, goggles and a paper overall, Gazeebo outside on an industrial estate tucked away in a corner on a still day and go for it..

Good luck.

i think you will be hard pressed to find a primer that isn't porous! a top quality primer will be fine for short term storage/coverage.
Etch primer is only necessary for Aluminium bodywork, a normal primer is fine for Golf Panels.
but if you are in any real doubt you are best speaking to a paint supplyer, i too use Jawel, but the Dudley Branch.

Good luck!!!   :banghead:
the only place i know that uses that is spl dudley, and they have to dip and then coat the part i have asked Jawel and a few other places as i have some NOS MK1 parts that i'd like kept it A1 condition.
i was told it isn't strictly a primer, it is a coating and is not avaliable to be sprayed on.

i Don't have access to them either unless i beg! 2k is a lot better finish and longer lasting. over spray travels a bit further though i think! i paint in the Garage on the side of the house or on the drive if its clear, just wear a good mask  :-)
