Whys My Cab running like a pig????

Post

Hi all,

Hopefully someone out there will be able to give me some advise. Ive been looking through the forum and wiki but now need a bit of extra help from someone that has a better understanding of engines or from someone that has had the same problem, so here goes nothing.

I bought a '87 Gti Cabriolet last month, it was running a little lumpy when driving at a constant speed and stalling occasionally. The MOT certificate had flagged up that the fuel lines were corroded. After reading this and pairing it with the fact that the fuel pump was making a lot of noise I came to the conclusion that the lumpy running and stalling would hopefully be rectified after changing the pump and fuel lines.

So on to my predicament, after changing the fuel pump, fuel lines, spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor arm, HT leads, air filter and fuel filter the running of the car at any constant speed feels lumpy. The car is yet to stall and it does seem to run a little better but can anyone think or know of any other reason why this is happening and what can I hopefully do to rectify it.

Thanks Craig

I hope you took the tank out and gave it a good clean ?
Also what is the state of the filler neck ?
If there was rusty water getting to the metering head then that is probably beyond repair.
Achilles heal of the mk1 Golf I am afraid.

Cheers,
Ade

Have you checked the lift pump in the fuel tank and the fuel filler neck? When checking the lift pump you can also have a good look in the fuel tank.
timing might also be out, very easy to get it a couple of teeth out when changing the cam belt.
