Which Golf engine has a large "A" stamped on the engine block ?

I still cant figure out which engine mine is.

doesnt really mean anything so far as i know, need to read the actual engien number to be sure of what it is

I have a spare engine that im certain has a large A stamped on it. Was told it was from a 1.8 manual cabby. Not gti.

Can you remember the engine code ?

Ive seen 2H cabby engines with a A stamped on it.

Is the code on front or back of block?

On the front, just above the olie filter flange

Sorry for late reply. Have checked spare agine and cant find the a stamp on It. So im guessing its on my engine. Theres no code on my spare engine where you said. But on my engine there is but I cant make it out as ive painted over it!! Dont really want to sand it off. Lol. But I know its a 1.8 non gti. If that helps. If you are stuck ill rub it down get the number and re paint that bit back up. :-D
