What engine is this ? Now with pics

Since the 1.6 GTI engine in my car has gone bang (literally) I am starting to look for a donor, I did buy what i believed was a 1.6 engine for some spares it came with and apparently it has a reconditioned head. Although the block looks the same physically as my EG series 1.6 engine and it has a 1.6 head it has the number *YZ 024 573*

Is this a factory recon unit ?

Turns ok and has good compression so I am considering using it to get my 79 back on the road rather than hunt for a good EG series engine.

Can anyone help based on the pictures ?or does anyone know differences between 1.8 and 1.6 bottom ends I can check out ?

Just wanted to know before I shell out cash on another engine.

Well its a 1.6 that's for sure but what the code means i don't no , why not have that block rebuilt ?

 

its a 1.6 GTI engine 110bhp with a 9.5 comp ratio, built from 79 - 85 and I think it was made for Audis...

why? id have stuck that one in if im honest, i dont think it would have made a blind bif of deifferance the only think to check would have been it could accept / has the right engine mount.
