What coolant? g12 plus plus? halfords advanced?

As the title really, changed my radiator switch and thermostat as it didnt have one!

Also, would a better coolant result in a cooler running engine?

Nope. Just running water, would result in better cooling, but corrode the engine a bit, so you need a little bit of coolant. AFAIK The newer style one's advantages are longer service life.

I think it should be Glysantin G05. I know that Univar sell it. It contains a hybrid corrosion inhibitor package with nitrites, salts of organic acids and silicates. G12 ++is VW name for Glysantin G40, G12+ is Glysantin G30.

on second thoughts Comma (www.commaoil.com) do G05, its called Extreme G05. It will tell you the local stockist.

I use VW/Quantum G12 for the long life

Use different spec fan switch and thermostat to run cooler.
