Is anyone using it?

I've been looking at this:

Has anyone used it? Is it any good/worth the money?

Less efficient than water, and flammable.

Do a search, lots of discussion about it. Cost is pretty high, supposedly lasts forever, but you'll have to re-fill everytime you disconnect cooling system, and will still require a top up…

Ah okay. I thought there must be a catch or everyone would be using it…

I'll do my research, thanks

Yeah that would be handy, I'm a bit torn on if it's worth it or not. If it works as advertised it has some distinct advantages

Waterless coolant

I looked at it a few times and was not sure whether it was worth it. Last year at the NEC Classic Car Show they were offering it with about 25% off and seeing as I had a freshly built engine I thought that I would give it a go.

So some 4000 miles later I have been really pleased with it. The engine temperature remains more constant. The water temperature reads a little higher but the oil temperature is about the same.

The advantages for me are that the engine is better protected from corrosion as there is no water to corrode the internals and there is less stress on the water pipes as it does not pressurise - you can take the cap off the expansion tank even when fully warmed up. Finally it is filled for life.

There is a downside if you get a leak as you need to capture it to put back in once you fix the leak or you have to buy some more which could get expensive - for this reason it would make sure that all your hoses and radiator are in good order. In an emergency you can top up with water but you then lose the properties of the waterless coolant.

So like everything there are positives and negatives !!

Cheers,
Ade

lhasadreams Cool thanks for the info Ade.

They are the same reasons that I'm considering going that way, I just wanted to avoid being sold some magic beans - so to speak.
