Warm up regulator blocked what are the symptoms

I have a running fault with my EG 1.6 gti engine.

It will start and idle can rev when cold but has absolutely no power and generally stalls when under load. When I rev up with a CO gas moinitor it drops very lean then stalls hence why I think it is fueling related.

It could be a fualt with the dizzy cap, as the central pin fell out and I replaced it but it does still idle ok.

I have tested fuel system pressure is fine, I thought it was blocked fuel filter restricting fuel flow and pressure. I tested the WUR pressure and it was the same as the system pressure.

I have not yet refitted a wur but with teh wur removed I used the test gauge to adjust the control pressure to roughly the level it should be and it appeared to rev better but not driven it like this under load.

My question is would the WUR ( I stripped it and the valve pin was seized) causing the control pressure to be at system pressure cause the loss of power issue or would it just cause general rough running and starting ( I always needed to give full throttle to get the thing to start. I also used to have high rpm misfire that may of been fueling related.

Has anyone else had a jammed WUR rather than say an electrical failure of the WUR?

Thanks for any help.

The WUR indirectly controls the air/fuel ratio, so if the control pressure is permanently at system pressure I would say that it is blocked.

Almost certain that at some point it has had a rotten filler neck deposit its nasty rusty particles into your wur and metering head. In my experience you can clean the wur by undoing the four internal screws at blowing through. The metering head is a pain to get the halves to be fuel tight again.

Cheers,
Ade

thanks lashadreams, the engine is in a kit car, and I did have problems due to old fuel going though it. I have stripped down the wur and the needle was seized solid. What I wonder if the control pressure locked at system pressure would allow idle but no power under any load?

Just wonder if anyone had experienced this with a wonky wur or normally a wonky wur will just make starting bad and general poor running.

I will rebuild and fit and see what happens at the weekend.

The engine really needs to come out and have a full overhaul but if I do that I will probably stick in an KR, 9A or ABF as it should all fit and my kit car needs more power.

I've rebuilt the wur, and it now starts alot better no need to press the throttle as I always had before hopefully fixing the Wur fomr holding the control pressure will also cure my misfiting under heavy load that I had before this running fault occured. replaced all igntion parts. no improvement
And it still will only idle when revved it will reach a almost like a physical rpm limit.  I have stripped and cleaned the metering head. I did not remove the barrel of the plunger so did not visually inspect the 4 slits but gave it all a good balst with carb cleanere and air line. (metering head now weaps   )

I not yet replaced the fuel filter, thats on today list, could the filter be blocked partially reducing the flow rate required at high rpm? However the flow rate does seam pretty high although I have not yet measured it.

This is now getting rather frustrating, this just meant to be a toy for sunny days which will soon be all gone!

hey man i know this is a reasonably old post but just wondering how u got on, mine done the same thing because of the filler neck rot, ive replaced (at great expense) the filler neck, fuel filters x2 (which slightly improved) then the fuel pumps x 2 as it was running slightly low pressure, all lines cleaned, replaced metering head, new injectors, spark plugs etc, it still doesnt start very well, going in for new start up relay and warm up regulator next week hope that solves all problems once and for all!
