valve lifters
Can somebody tell me the problems envolved with using a head from a 1.8 8valve on a 1.6 8 valve.
As far as i understand it the 1800 has hydrolic lifters where as the 1600 has solid lifters? Can i use the solid lifters on the 1800 head with the new cam etc?
Can the hydrolic lifters be used on a 1600 bottom end?
Regards

it just wont work at all, the head pattern is slightly different and combustion will be waaaaaaaay to low. plus you have to strip out most of the internals so you can change the timing belt sprockets and oil pump

i dont know why but i thought you said 1.8 16v so ignore the bit about the internals.
I also assumed you meant 1.6 GTI, if so then its just the compression which is effected as the 1.6 head is completly flat, the 1.8 has dished combustion chambers. also as i say the head is slightly different the 1.8 has an extra oil hole on the front which is not on the 1.6 block, you can see the bulge on the front of the head when you compare.
if you meant a later 1.6 carby block, then the 1.8 gti head is a direct fit
