no such thing as a uprated gearbox for these, all the ones that fit this engine are the same internally in regards to strength, just the ratios that differ between the models.

what engine does it have

right, with that one any later 1.8 injection box will do, late cab, scirocco and any MK2 Golf GTI :)

MK2 16v and MK3 2.0 8v boxes require you to fit a MK2 16v clutch, as they have a bigger input shaft. 16v box much the same as 8v GTI, just has a shorter 5th. MK3 GTI box has overall more relaxed gearing, but still quite 'sporty' compared to carby boxes.

Whats up with gearbox. I bet with a properly adjusted cutch, shifter bushes/ball replaced and some freah w75/90 oil it will be fine?

1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

yes mk3 2.0 8v will fit same way as any other 020 box, just need to remember that the input shaft on it is bigger like the 1.8kr one
