Turning but not firing?

I have a caddy with a 1.8 16v seat ibiza engine in, its been good as gold untill yesterday when it decided to just not fire. i have checked the spark plugs and ht leads which are all sparking fine. Had a listen to the fuel pump a min ago and i cant hear it whirring? also fuel seems to be weeping from the main connection to the fuel pump..?
