tuning a 1.8 gti engine

What are the best ways to modify a gti engine for best performance, i already have a full jetex exhaust system and a pipercross induction kit but i want more out of it and wandered if thee was an easy way to do this, i've herd rumors but no garuntees, any advise is welcomed and appreciated.

Thanks Mike

16V WUR + proper setting up on a rolling road or with a lambda probe, will probably give you +10bhp. You can also fit a larger throttle body but I don't think this gives gains unless the inlet manifold and head are also ported/polished. Then you're into swapping the cam, then bigger valves. I reckon a fast road cam, big valve head, ported/polished, throttle body, decent sports exhaust system and the fuel injection properly set up, will give you around 140bhp.

After that you're into engine conversion stuff. A cheap option would be to use a 2l 8v 'bubble block' engine - ie Audi 3A. More expensive (but more potential) are 16V, G60, 20vT, etc.

Could someone explain the 16v Warm Up Regulator mod as i am uncertain to how this will improve power as surely its not in use once the engine is up to temperature or am i missing something?

It has an xtra vacuum take off connected to the throttle body and provides more fueling during hard acceleration , hot or cold engine.

That's only half the benefit.

The other half, is that it allows fine control of the fuel control pressure, which in turn has a big effect on the Air-Fuel ratio in all phases of running. The mixtrure screw only really affects mixture at idle (significantly), so you can tune your engine to give more power up top, yet still pass MoT emissions.

bigger throttle, with ported inlet for it, audi 5pot or early 16v wur with the vacuum connected is a good and cheap option. then you are looking at cam, headwork, 2.0litres. a cam is an easy install.
as said, a good rolling road set up is always worthwhile and definently should be included in any modifying budget. it's not unusual for people to be running 100-105bhp from your set up and come out of a rr with 115-120.

i`ve fitted this but not put the vacuum pipe on..( not got one ) its improved the drive of the car.Where does it fit to on the throttle body..? what pipe do you use..? thanks andy
