tsr engine what spec?

hi just come across a tsr engine out of a mk1 golf no idea of the spec any clues what to look for marking wise

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think TSR label them up, so other than the 1.8 for example stamped on the block, I doubt you'll be able to tell what's inside given the vast number of options of what they could have done

thanks for your reply i had a good look around the engine apart from cast no  there is a 10 and 2 punched in to the right side of the head   i will give tsr a ring in the morning dan

Best bet Dan, they may be able to tell you something. Should be good whatever is inside it though

They stamp stuff to keep record as far as I know, mates got a head been worked by them stamped tsr 1507 for instance. They then should have an exact record of what work was carried out. 

If its tsr my bet is a bored out block (1.9) for sure with head work

hi been in touch with tsr without the reg of the car it was fitted in they would not be able to identify it  i think i will have to get the socket set out and have a littlt peep

You must be a hell of a lot more patient than me mate!
If I discovered a TSR motor I would not be able to sleep until I found out what had been done to it.
By removing the inlet/exhaust manifolds you can see how serious they worked the mods. If there are BIG bores on either I would rip the head off and measure the valves, check the piston size, etc, just for the crack!
All the above is because I am sad old (69) git who still gets excited by modified engines, will grow up one day!

hi bud hoping to have a look sunday it came with a 421 mani and stainless big bore exhaust fingers crossed its something special should fit nicely in my new 82 gti      never grow up its not nice
