Timing???

could the timing being out on my 1.8 k jet 86 golf cabrio cause it to have bottom end rattle and over heat????? please help!!!!

Sounds like it may be pinking - not bottom end rattle. This and overheating may suggest too much advance. Back off your timing a bit and see if that helps...

thanks for the advice. as i dont have a timing gun should i just turn the dizzy anti clockwise? a fraction at a time?
