Tick tick tick tick tick.....HELP PLEASE

i have an e reg cabby 1.8GTI . when i rev it or under load there is a loud ticking noise coming obviously from the engine.

could this be a part of the exhaust??

Also when driving without the radio on theres a noise that sounds like "air" or a "speaker on full volume with no music :? "…like a white noise.

Any ideas?

Not sure about the white noise sound, but the ticking could be a noist tappet. Have you checked your oil recently?

Oil level is fine. The ticking seams to disappear if I really hammer my foot down!!

cheers for the help. ive looked through the posts on ticking and i am now convinced its the manifold.

gona check for leaks in the morning

bit of bog roll held close to zaust at joints will show up any leaks
