Thermostat question

Post

Hello,

I have a vw golf mk1 cabriolet 1.8 with the 2h engine (93' model) with an after-market A/C installed. Yesterday I went to a garage and they changed my thermostat, and installed one with 80c  degrees instead of the previous one which was 87c. Now, the car runs lower, as you can see from the picture (this pictures comes from the highway, while in traffic the needle goes on top of the red bulb).

I live in a warm climate, summer is 32-40c and winter is 2-10c. Am I ok with this thermostat, or should I change to a higher temperature (the 87c)?

My thermoswitch is the three pin: 191959481C and was changed recently.

Please advice me what to do, as I want to keep this engine for ever!
Cheers,
George

The thermostat they fitted will be perfectly suitable for your climate.

OK, thanks for the information. If I see strange things happen to the car during winter time, I will come back with comments.George

You should be ok with the winters you have, I had a faulty thermostat which was staying open I drove for a month or so in the winter at -6 degrees and the only thing I noticed is the oil temp was only get to 80 degrees (water cooled oil) and it took longer for the heater to get warm. I drive in the country to work so not much stop starting town driving so the cold air was the main problem, once stopped it got warmer.

Fixed it in the end (fitted a new thermostat) I was waiting for the weather to warm up!
