Sweet as a nut then BROWN BREAD

Hi Everyone,

Took my 83 GTi for a spin this afternoon.

Went down the M42 and the car was running really really good.
I was smiling all the way until I got off at junction 11 where she decided to completly cut out when I got to the island.

Turns over but there's nothing there when you put your foot on the gas.

Recovery chap came out but he couldn't find the problem. (Didn't hold much hope when he asked "where's the fuse box in one of these things!"

Anybody got any ideas what could be up?
Running brilliantly one minute then dead the next.
Fuel seems to be getting in OK.

Any ideas would be grateful

have you got a spark at the plugs ?  do you know what the recovery chap checked ?  
would be worth doing a visual check on all the leads/ connections, especialy the coil and hall sender ,  has any work been done on the car recently ?? maybe disturbed something ?
