stutering acceleration & poor starting (cured!!!)
My 83 gti has started stutering a lot when accelerating, it didnt ust to do it all the time, some days it would some it wouldn't. But it prety much does all the time now.
To begin with i thought it was the leads, changed them and it was ok for a short while. I have since changed the plugs, rotor arm, disy cap its also had a new battery.
The car has done 145k & the top end is tapping a lot, it smokes a little whilst changing gear at speed. It also has cracked manifold. This is all due to be done asap when the new head arrives.
The car has not been run on 4 star substitute, do u think it could be a nackered valve????
The car is not a good starter eather. It starts much better when its cold rather than when its hot. When hot you have to apply slightly more throttle as u keep turning it over until it starts.
Also how loud should the fuel pump be?? mine is very loud is it normal?
I hope that all makes sense? Any help would be much appreciated

failing that id guess at a lack of fuel caused by a clogged fuel tank filter - my pump was noisy, took the filter out the tank and it was clogged with a concrete like substance - cleaned it off and it quietened down no end and ran a lot better

I have now tried & cleaned the following, fuel pump, fuel accumalator, fuel filter, injector seals, as well as replacing the other items in my first post. Please help its driving me mad
Whilst accelerating it feels a bit like its missing/juddering. But if u cluth it whilst its doing this, and keep ur foot on the throttle it will rev up fine, (only plays up when under load).
When missfiring/juddering with foot planted on the throttle the econmy gauge will still decrease in mpg, as normal. :dontknow: Please help :dontknow:
