starting problems ?

Wonder if anyone could help, just had an engine replaced on my h-reg gti cabby as the big ends were rattling but no problems starting previously.
Well she turns over ok but cannot here the fuel pump prime ? The relay is ok as is the fuel pump if powered up,the machanic who is working on her isnt that clued up on the k jet injection but thinks it might be the fuel pressure accumulator on the front of the engine bay ? Any of you guys got any ideas on it ? Im just wondering if he has put the two pipes going to that the wrong way (is that possible) and is there a way of checking the function of this and other components rather than me paying out for items that dont need replacement ? Any help would be welcome thanks Roy.

Are you doing the work yourself or is a mechanic doing it, but now given up? The fuel pipes are possible to mix up, but carefully following the path of them will reveal which one is which. Also, you can always remove the connections then briefly turn the ignition on, fuel will come out of the feed pipe (obviously) and then you'll know too.

There's no fuel pressure accumulator at the front of the car (its at the rear), are you confusing it with the fuel filter which is next to the metering head?

The fuel goes:

Tank –> Fuel pump –> Accumulator –> Filter –> Metering head –> return line from metering head to tank.

i must be looking at the cold start then, bolted to the front of the block next to oil filter ? And yes the machanic has given up and is baffled to why she wont start.

That's the warm up regulator. What kind of mechanic - a mate helping you out, or a garage? Seems strange they can't get it started….

Also can you clarify this lot:

Well she turns over ok but cannot here the fuel pump prime ? The relay is ok as is the fuel pump if powered up

Because at the moment, I can't understand it!!!!

yes its a mate that i was paying to get it sorted,im just wondering what else would stop the fuel pump priming if the relay and pump are ok.any new ideas ? or has anyone got a link to how the k-jet system runs. If the cold start was faulty that would stop the fuel pump to prime would it ?
Cheers for the help anyway.

Dodgy ignition switch? - could cause fuel pump not to operate.

What do you mean "if the cold start was faulty". Do you mean the cold start valve? Or the Warm up Regulator? Neither would affect the operation of the fuel pump.

Royzal,

There's a link on my website that will take you to some K Jet Info.

The best way to isolate the problem is to bypass the fuel relay - see Prowler's Injector test on how to do this - and see if the car will start.

If it doesn't then test the cold start system - Cold start injector and Thermo time switch.

If they check out OK and you are sure you have spark etc then the next step is to do a full system pressure test.  You will need a test kit like the ones we sell to do this - http://www.golfmk1.co.uk/Tester.htm
