Start up Issues

:D  Two weeks ago bought a 1989 white gti cab 1800 8V. She's not the best looking golf on the block, a bit too many mods. It's something i've always wanted but either been to expensive or inpracitcal.

Hardly any history and It was cheap so can't really complain.
First morning wouldn't start.

Started after 5 minutes of trying with the jump leads

Rang my local garage. booked in for a service.

take it in the morning, get a call in the afternoon for the work that needs doing.

rear brakes seized, cam belt, fog light, horn, track rod need thingy worn and he would look into the problems starting.

6 days and ?600.00 later I pick it up, runs miles better.

The next morning, not starting  :banghead:

The guy said he had cleaned fuel system, injectors and warm up thingy.

Anyway summary
Takes at least 5mins of turning the engine over before it starts. I nearly always have to jump it from another car.

once it starts if i touch the gas for the first minute it cuts out.

try starting again takes about 2 minutes

Please please help

I'm like a kid with a new toy, except it doesn't work

Sounds like the 5th injector isn't firing. Its easy enough to test - you unbolt the 2 allen keys, disable the coil and lay it across the engine, when you try to start it should squirt for 4-10 secs or so.

If it doesn't work, its most likely its electrical connection that's dirty/corroded/misplaced. If not, it could be the thermo time switch or its wring at fault.
