So what happens to the ECU from a MK2 Engine in the MK1.Help

Hi
I am in the process of fitting a MK2 1989 engine into a 1985 Mk1.

The ECU is offcoarse on the MK2 so how do the injectors push around on a MK1 as it has no ECU.
I am told just Don't use the ECU but then how is the injectors supposed to push?

Can someone help?

On the mark 2 it is a injector rail and on the mk 1 it has injector pipes from the air filter.

I hope this helps

If you're putting a digifant engine in a Mk1 there's 2 approaches:

1. Transfer all the fuel injection over, including the ECU, from the Mk2
2. Convert it to K-Jet, you'd need to swap over the injector seats and injectors, etc between the 2 inlet manifolds. In this case, the ECU (and the rest of the Mk2 fuelling system) can be binned.

I don't know, never done it myself but I think they unscrew with the correct hex headed tool.

well i thought i had :banghead:

I started on 1 and no problem with a 12mm. I run out of light. This morning i tried thinking it would be straight forward but it wasn't.

2 of them were 12mm and then i found that the remaining 2 were smaller so i tried a 10mm but no it was too small. I tried the allen keys with same results.

Thinking a 11mm would be simple to get i was prooved very wrong.
I get trade discount but the specialist dealers just said 'They just don't do that size'….Well it was a 1 in 10 chance with Halfords with the same results.

I was also surprised that the sleeves were Plastic!. More the reason not too force.
I have built this engine from nothing too then placing it in the car. A lot of hard work has been put in. I cal 99% of the time work around any problems with broken rusty bolts etc and electrics but this one is my 1%

Anyone please? :dontknow:

They are definately all 12mm! They must be clogged up with crap!

I had trouble with one of mine when removing the seat, perserverance is the key!

bit cow boyish, but try wrapping insulation tape round the end of the alan key really tight, might pick up some slack in the hole!

Alternatively get a pipe cleaner in there with some wd-40 o it ad try and clea it up!

One of the previous owners definately rounded off the nuts. I had too remove the manifold too get a decent grip but even then with every trick in the book they just would not budge.

In the end i had no choice and cracked the plastic housing too get them out, again even then it was a nightmare. brass is not the most forgiving metal and care was off the essence.

But all done.
another problem dealt with.

it's great when you overcome a problem it really gives you a satisfying feeling
