smokey start up

Just recently when i first start my 1.8 gti a plume of white smoke comes out of the exhaust. Seems to run normal after this, any ideas what could be causing this?????????

White is steam , like your kettle .

On start up okay just clearing moisture from the system . Providing all vital signs are okay [oil water etc ] don't worry .

possible head gasket on its way out matey!

doubt its the head, it woud be smokey when running, not juat on start up.
but if in doubt, do a combustion gas check.

i think its just the moisture this time of year. most cars let out a puff of white smoke when started after being standing for a while.

my 83 gti was smokey only on start up and needed the head recon'd but that was due to valve guide wear. if it looks like steam then water is building up in the combustion chamber and i seriously doubt it would be due to the weather!
would do a compression check. also does it seem to be using any water?
any problems pm me! been a mechanic for long enough

yeah it does seem to be using a bit of water, no visible leak! and also running a little hot.
