Slightly unsteady idle

Hello,

I've got my '84 GTI running pretty well, just one more thing to take care of and she'll be running brilliantly…  At idle, when cold or warm, she searches around by 50 RPM or so from 1000.  Oscillates about every second or two mmmmmMMMMMMmmmmmmmMMMMMMMMMmmmmmm…  Not a big deal but it gets a little aggrivating sitting at a long light.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i hate to say this but no cars perfect lol

you might want to check the condition of you plugs, ht leads and dizzy… then check ALL the breathers since the slightest air leak can cause a little hunting, once all thats eliminated then i'd probably take it for a tune up

anything can cause hunting, its usually the smallest thing but just 50rpm?! thats nothing!!! lol

i'd just check everything's nice, tight n clean (sparks plugs, rotar, cap etc) and then move on to the fueling/timing

even my '97 passat 20vt does a lil hunting… could even be just wear n tear

You should check those injectors !

Symptom: Irregular idle during warm-up

Cause
Remedy
Leaks in air intake system (false air) Check air system for leaks
Auxiliary air valve does not open Check valve for correct function
Cold start valve leaking Check cold start valve
"Cold" control pressure outside tolerance Test pressure
Injector leaking, opening pressure low Check injectors on tester
Injected fuel quantities unequal Check for equal fuel quantities
Basic idle setting incorrect Check and adjust CO level
Lambda control system not functioning correctly Check Lambda control system

also, forgot to add a quick cheapy… injector seals (the "O" rings around the injectors), they could have gone a little hard so give each one a wiggle and see if there's any play… they cost penny's so they might be worth doing anyway
