setting the dissy timing correctly!

hi, ive recnetly swaped the 1.6 engine in my gti with another one due to it sezing, but the engine ive fitted had its dissy removed, so i swaped dissys then i checked it, found out that i had it fitted 180degrees out, so i lined up all the timing marks on the cam belt, then insterted the dissy in the correct position, but it still wont fire, could it be that the movement in the dissy head, ie the accutate timing is out now by so much that it wont fire or do you recon, even if its in the correct position ie not 180degrees out it would still fire? just run like shite, cos its got me pritty stumped tbo!!

im into vw beetles and have atiming light/gun, but on these how are you ment to time the things? my mate was saying summat about dwel angle, you use a mutimeter on it, how do i do that, ive borrowed his muti meter,

ive check my haynes but theres nowt there so any info would be great, as its defitnly getting fuel, and its deffitnly geting a spark, so its either the timing or theres no air in there!!

cheers
alex

AHHH! you need all 3 marks in the right place for default settings.

CAM ( DOT on Cam cover)
CRANK (Arrow on cover pointing to notch on crank pully)
INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ( Dot Align with Crank Notch)

This site will give u all the info you will need.

And if it's the first time firing your engine you'll need to crank the hell out of it!
