Running hot ???
Just purchased my fifth MK1 after a gap of 6yrs, a 1985 GTI Cabrio.
Unsure what engine mods have been done, certainly quicker than my previous memories, the obvious is that it has drilled air box & Magnex SS exhaust.
My question is should it be running "hot".The temp gauge reads 3/4 hot and the red light indicator comes on.The car doesn't overheat and there is no difference in performance
Should I worry, or do I need to fit bigger fan/oil cooler or radiator
Any comments appreciated

I'm not sure if the mods you have are the cause but you could first try to flush and refill the cooling system with the appropriate fluid mix and see if that makes a difference. The system might be clogged up and not working as efficiently as it should, especially if your car has been pepped up.

Check that coolant is being pumped through OK by the water pump.
You should get a steady jet of water arriving in the collant header tank - if not a new pump may be in order.
