Rocker cover

Hello peeps,

I've got an oil leak from the rocker cover. The oil is going on the manifold and smokin.

I went to replace the gasket and found the rocker cover has a slight twist. Should it be like this or should it be flat?

shouldn't be twisted, but i don;t think it's a major issue if it's not too bad.
get the rubber gasket from vw for that, not the cork one.

it's about 7mm out, I got the cork one.

Is it worth trying the rubber or replace the cover?

does the cover sit flat (on the table or something) without too much effort?

the cork gaskets have a rubber semi circle bit. these are prone to leaking. the rubber one is one piece. you have to change the fixing studs but, these come in the box and are very easy to do.

no where near flat. it rocks a fair bit. I think i'll replace the cover and get the rubber gasket. Any ideas where can I get the rubber gasket?

Its either 026198025A or 026198025C depending if you need a part for the shoulder.  Dealer should be able to tell you which one you need but make sure you have your VIN handy.

I got the cork one originally and it was rubbish.  I lost about a litre of oil down the front of my engine.  Definitely get the rubber one.

Unless your rocker cover is way out of shape or you overtighten the nuts (only need 7 Ibft of torque) a cork one should be fine. I stuck a new cork on my GTI 3 year ago and on my 1.1 last year and neither has leaked.

The main benefit of the rubber one is that it is reusable whereas you are supposed to replace the cork one whenever you take the rocker cover off. I thought I read you need to replace the rocker cover studs for ones with a wider top half when fitting the rubber gasket?
