Rocker gasket is dead easy, 15 minute job. I did see on the forum that a rubber gasket is recommended from the MK3 but not sure which model. Search the forum, for the answer!!

As for water leak, the temp sensor should have a copper / aluminium washer on there to act as a seal. I personally wouldn't use instant gasket. I would replace the copper washer and use a bit of PFTE tape on the threads.

I have exactly the same problem with leaking onto the inlet manifold out of the rocker, or out of the breather from the cylinder head - I have just changed the rocker cover gasket and also the breather pipe and the leak has got worse - I put a plastic gasket on - i'm going to get a cork one and have another go.

get a genuine vw rocker cover gasket. they only do the one piece rubber ones now anyway. DON'T GET A CORK ONE unless you want to change it again soon. they always leak. ?6-7 from vw i think. the studs are different for the rubber one and do need to be changed over if you have the old cork gasket ones. nice easy diy job though. i have one you can buy for ?15

Wooders dude, the retainer studs out of the cylinder head have to be different on the one piece plastic gaskets ? My car previously had the cork gasket and has the studs which have a notch in, so as you can only screw them into the head so far, whereas the other ones have the thread either side and then the flat in the middle - which ones are needed? Also, I have had trouble getting anywhere near the thread on the far end when I place the plastic trim back on which holds the timing belt cover in place, when the plastic trim is on, there is bugger all thread to bolt onto visible !!!

Appreciate some advice dude cos very fed up this end ! Steve

Ditto - I got a new gasket from VW and it arrived with a packet of studs - way to go

gaskets

i replaced my rocker cover gasket and used a 10mm head bolt (8/6mm) head, gives you a bit more length to bolt into the head and you can use a couple of washers if necessary to bulk it up.

here for a good time, not a long time

Benkenobi - sorry for hijacking your thread mate !

Wooders etc, thanks for your kind feedback - it is appreciated. I am off to
the local VW garage at lunch to order a decent gasket.

Thanks again.  :D
