Random cut out

Hi guys/girls new to this forum and i should have joined a longtime ago but hey i bet everyone says that.

My mark 1 cab is a 1800c gti. I was driving home last night from work and the weather was a little wet but not to bad, the car was running fine.. then suddenly lost all power..not coughs or splutters..just cut out.. i popped the hood checked all over but couldnt find anything hanging of or come loose etc.

To me it seems like an electrical fault but im not 100% on that can anyone help me please???

My car also doesnt like to start sometimes when its swicthed off then 30 secs later say….. i try start it again it turns over but no firing up???? any ideas?

I have changed my ht leads, plugs, injectors, dis cap, rotor arm.

Hate to say i was just about to post the exact same problem,
i have an 1986 mk1 1.8 gti cab

this seems to happen when its wet, or has been heavily raining the night before, if the car starts, it refuses to rev and then its allmost like something clears and it will begin to rev, if i stop or change gear it will loose power and either cut out or refuse to rev for a while !

i have checked everything and am too skint to take it to a garage !

Please help !

hi mate doesnt seem to be quite the same problem i beieve as my golf starts fine if its raining hard, or if its rained hard the night before etc.

just doesnt really make sense to me.

Your problem though i did have that quite a few months ago… and it ended up being that my injectors needed replacing and my some type of fuel pump from the petrol tank that helps draw the fuel to the carb that needed replacing too ( I took this work to the garage )

does your car have no power and feel quite chuggy? if so then i would assume its only firing on 3 and your need to find witch one is not firing and inspect that area.
