I was wondering about this also. The type you have gives a much neater install on Mk1's in my opinion, as the airbox and washer bottle can stay in the same place.

Not 100% sure but it could be 16V scirocco?

Yep rare American 16V Scirroco . Good thing about these is you could fit a 16V like that straight on the MK1 K-Jet injection system and not have to alter any fuel parts .

are you sayin' that the mk1 gti k-jet fits on this 1.8 16v?? this engine was in the car, bolt on all four mounts, but the shell is from golf 1.6d (engine mounts also), so i'm not sure that was fitted proprietly…

dont know much about the engine, but the diesels are big block, so is spot on to use those engine mounts, at least you know thats right!

Just a kr with the scirrocco inlet manifold surely, and although it looks neater i just couldnt source the rubber boot needed to connect it all up. Would need the correct injector lines as well.

It is either a PL or KR code engine. Both were offered in Europe and the internals are exactly the same except for the intake camshaft. Just by looking at the picture I would say it is the 123hp PL engine (intake manifold, throttle switches and crankcase vent hose) but all parts can be swapped.

From looking at the picture, it seems that the prior owner was trying to switch to electronic injection. Both the PL and KR used a form of CIS injection and that fuel filter and fuel hose in the top of the picture would not work under CIS fuel pressure.
