problem with cooling

drove the golf in to preston today and on the way home i noticed a little bit of steam coming from the engine, so i quickly looked down and the temp guage was very high, so i pulled over, poped the bonnet with the engine still running, and there was a jet of steam coming from the top of the radiator!!
i noticed it was slightly leaking the other day, basically on the o/s just near where the pipe runs into the cylinder head, where the radiators mounts at the top it seams to be coming out of there, so ive removed the mount on that side, and i cant see a crack but it deffiantly is coming from in there,
is there anything i can use to shove down the slot to some how seal the plastic???
looking for a quick fix really, as new radiators are 45quid, and i aint got that money at the momment!!
is this a common thing on GTi's???
let me know!!
cheers
alex.

If rad leaking then try radweld or similar.

Only other thing I can say is some years ago my ex-mother-in-law had a leaky rad so plugged the hole with bluetack - it lasted about 5 years!! 8O
