PLEASE HELP!Red tape

Hey guys & girls. I brought this mk1 golf 4weeks ago, and have noticed red tape around 1 of the hose/pipes. can someone tell me what part this is as iv found oil leaking out…and could you please explain the useage of that pipe?thanks alot for your time and hopefully your help.

It's the engine oil breather pipe, take the tape off and replace it with a new pipe.

From looking at your pics i would also say that you would probably be wise to replace your accelerator cable too as the actual cable covering has split behind the adjuster, the cable will start rubbing and it will eventually fail.

before i repair and replace the T shape pipe, would i need to drain anything? thanks

No, it is a just a join on the breather pipe.

If you want parts for these,like cables etc go to PW Europarts at Colley Gate- its not far from you, they can get you most anything and have a lot of spares on the shelf......i should know, they cant keep me out of there.
