Overheating, or at least thats the way it looks...

Hi all

I am having some problems with my Golf Mk1 GTi. My basic problem is this, the car starts, and runs fine and then after about 10-15 mins of use it will stutter and die. I have noticed that the water temp light flashes around the same time and the temp is half way between the middle and max of the temp gauge.

It will start but as soon as you touch the accellerator the car dies. Once the car has cooled down it will run fine again for a while.

I have checked the water and there is no shortage. It did this on the way back from its MOT last week and left me having to push the car off the road at a traffic light junction. Not much fun

Any ideas what could be wrong with this and how to resolve the issue.

Thanks

I have had this problem as well, after a run switch off, re-start fine, try to pull away engine dies,re-start ok but it will not rev.leave for a few minutes all ok,i think its a fuel vapourising issue due to residual heat build up under the bonnet.Just like to add it doesn't happen all the time just now and again
