Oil pump - need to identify

Post

I have been restoring my engine, to clarify:

It started life as a GTI 1.8 8v DX engine, and in the late 80s has been converted by GTI Engineering to and RE2000 2.0 8V,

i have been trying to freshen the car up and give it a new lease of life but am baffled by the oil pump, the images show a new DX oil pump and the one that was removed from the car:

photo DSC_0153.jpg

the one on the left is the old, and as you can see the shaft is waisted, but the standard DX one doest have the waist as such, the waist on the old one provides enough clearance for the crank, but the new one does not

is there any way of identifying which car its from, the lower part of the casing has the part number: 049 115 153B

any help would be appreciated

it may be a G60 pump I think:

edit: or maybe a 2.0 8v one?

I managed to get hold of Vince at Stealth racing, he said that GTI Engineering, probably machined it down as needed,

do you know if this would have been the case?

Looks like that is indeed the case, the 2.0 8v oil pumps are pre-machined same as the ABF/9A ones are, but not quite as much as yours now I look at pictures!

part number for the 2.0 8v pump is 027115105B and its higher capacity than the 1.8 8v one, I'd assume the 2.0 one still fits the short block since the ABF oil pump is the same as the 9A one?

Is the old oil pump faulty?
If not just re use it as they should last a few years my 1st one lasted 19 years before it gave up, it did give me warning's if was failing by settling of the oil buzzer a few times over the space of a month.

Hi Mate,

I am assuming it has never been replaced, and as i am doing a complete rebuild thought it be best to replace, i bought my car as a project and never had the pleasure of seeing it running, so for piece of mind im just replacing components i think i should, having spoken to the garage, they are getting it machined to clear the crank

Thanks

if you split the pump you can check the health of it, look for scoring on the gears and top plate, make sure the pressure relief valve is free and smooth etc.  if it all checks out then it should be fin e for many more years of service :)
