oil filling my air box please help

hello please please help me

Today on the way back from edition my oil light came on, i pulled over to find masses of oil dripping out of the cold air feed of my air box, there was also alot of oil in my induction pipe and k-jet unit, the air filter was drowned in oil.

Yesterday before edition i replaced my rocker cover and gasket along with other parts. The car had some oil in, however i had some oil left over from a previous job and thought i would bung it in…….thinking it will be ok. I did not check how much oil i put in.

The oil pressure gauge (vdo) in my car gave readings of higher pressures than normal at idle (3bar) and on throttle (5bar)

The engine now has no oil at all in it, I have checked this various times. (<1bar at idle)

I then put some more oil in thinking that i over filled the car causing the pressure to build up and force oil out. the same thing happend again. This time i put in 2litres of oil. The air box feed leaked again.

The engine is spotless, all the hoses are clean and not split, there is no leaks anywhere around the rocker cover/etc, the bay is super clean as it was at the show. All the oil ends up in the air box no where else.

What is causing this to happen.

please help as i have just had a new gearbox and chrome parts. is my engine foobarred?

thanks

jason

Car is a 1.8 8v standard k-jet

Yesterday before edition i replaced my rocker cover

Thats the clue ! The engine is being pressurized by NOT having a correct breather system .

No breather will force the oil out via the quickest route . Have you replaced all the hoses correctly was the new rocker a quality item  ?

the same happened to my car yesterday, my friend said it was a blocked breather but i'm not sure which ones to check?

i have replaced all the hoses correctly and clamped them in place

the rocker cover i have, is one i bought second hand, which seemed pretty straight and true, i also had it chromed.

my accelerator cable did not fit in the bracket loop, so i have had to resize the hole to accomodate it, could this be a clue? (ie wrong cover)

what other engines have rocker covers which look identical to mk1 gti covers but with different accelerator bracket?

is the problem deff with the rocker cover itself or more to likely the hoses?

the cover bolts on and does up properly and looks to be the correct one.

thanks again

ps. can some one tell me where all the breathers are so that i can double check that everything is correct.

cheers for the above topic

i was about to post in this thread to say i have identified the problem but you had already replied with the answer

i took my new rocker cover off and put the old one on and solved the problem.

the gauze in the new  one is totally blocked, however as the cover has been chromed, how will i removed the crap ? as i asume heat/explosion may damage the chrome finish

(the above topic states to soak it in petrol and light it to burn the crap out)

thanks for all the help guys

as mentioned in the rest of the above thread, you can cut the gauze out and replace it

rebuild in progress....
