Going to be replacing my oil cooler on my 1800 DX but I can't get a genuine one from vw so I'm looking at the one vwheritage sells. What I want to know is has anyone got one and is it of a good quality? As there the only ones I can find?

I bought one when my original cooler burst, quality seemed fine but I hadn't solved the issue as to why it burst, so it only lasted a few mins and it burst again. Wasn't down to the product though, as I found a second hand one, fitted that and that burst straight away. In end bought another secondhand one complete with pipes and filter housing, but before It was fitted changed oil pump and pressure valve which was damaged and causing issues in first place!
I only went second hand as they were cheaper and didn't want to risk wreaking another new one. I would get one though from Vw Heritage if replacing again though.

Is it the air cooled or water cooled, oil cooler you need as there is 2 types VW fitted depending on the year of the car.....

Thanks, I'll get a heritage one ordered.
I think mine should be the air cooled type? -1982 DX 1800, do they look physically different or is it the internals thats different?

They are totally different, yours should be the air cooled type, like a mini radiator next to the main cooling one. The later type I think looks like a bigger housing on the oil filter mount and runs water pipes off the main cooling system.

Yep, 1982 car has the air cooler oil cooler unless the engine has been changed.
Water oil cooler looks like this and lives just above the oil filter.
