Oil buzzer comes on at high revs. Rev counter earthin issue!

So, as stated my oil light and buzzer comes on at high revs on my '83 1.8 GTI. This could be under heavy acceleration or even just when the revs eventually get past about 4 -4.5k ish. I replaced my oil pressure sender but it was crap an just made my oil light flashh all the time, so swapped it to original again. Any ideas??

I am leaking oil down left of block from top. Not loads, but I think my rocker cover is slighlty warped an not forming a proper seal on one corner. This could be problem so on the case with a new one.

Anyone got any other ideas?? Faulty electrics??

Oh that reminds me, my rev counter spacs out and moves all over the shop even though the engine is running as it should. I.e. when idleing at about 1k, engine is fine to counter is up and down. Could this be an earthing issue?? What else??

Electrical gremlins ey??!! The bain of every MK1 owner……

i would get the oil pressure checked before you chuck money at it, it prob ok but best 2 check as cheap and easy, had audi with similar problem and it was the oil pump

fair one. Its not the biggest problem but if it is quick fix i'd do it. Needs MOT next month anyway so might just leave it till then. Cheers

if you do change the rocker gasket, get the rubber one and not the cork one. the cork gaskets are notoroius for weeping. the rubber ones have different threads and bolts wich are included. it's worth checking all the wiring and clean up the terminals. i had that once in a mk1 when the buzzer came on and over the course of time it faded out, light flickered on every now and then and then just stopped!? it is there for a reason though and we don't want the engine to go pop.

Does the buzzer increase with engine speed?,mine does it every time driving in heavy rain at high speeds, also the speedo bounces ,just put it down to 27 year old electrics...and the damp weather

the pressure switch for the buzzer is the white one in the filter housing, check the wire to it is ok. the faulty rev counter could effect it as well sicne the buzzer uses the rev signal to know when the buzzer should be on (only cuts in over 2krpm)
