No Spark

Hi
I'm a newby to this site. I own a mk1 golf 1.8gti 1983, bought last october. It has been garaged for the last 12 years and I have done numerous jobs since ownership. This time round when I was driving the car it just cut out, pulled over and the engine just turned over. got an auto electrician out and he recommended I replaced the ignition amplifier which I have done which hasn't fixed the problem.
 He now tells me I have to replace the distributor. Can anyone recommend what distibutor I can use as I cannot seem to find a mk1 distributor out there.

change the plugs ,leads, coil, cap and arm before you start looking at expensive things like a dizzy.. the hall sender usually fails before the dizzy does.   GSF or Ebay or the breaking section on here will be the best place to find a replacement.
