Mk1 Cab with Mk3 2.0 8v engine
Sorry for the essay but hoping someone may have a idea please!
I have got a mk1 Gti cab which has got a mk3 2.0 8v AGG i bought it off a friend of mine who has had it the last 13 years and had a G60 lump in a one point but took it off the road and left it in the garage with no engine after selling the G60. The engine is all fitted and plumbed in but doesnt run currently. I have an automotive electrican sorting the wiring for me as I definetly dont know what im doing! It was supplied without the tranponder key so I needed a new ECU transpondcer etc. which I bought a full set off ebay and he said there is no pulse to the injectors but everything else seems fine so I need to buy another ECU, immoibliser, keys etc off ebay as this one must be faulty. Is there anything else this is likely to be as I have a new ECU etc set ready for him to come back but if it doesnt work again is there something else that would stop a pulse getting to injectors? I made sure it was a matching ecu to the orginal also!
thank you in advance!

It is AGG.
does it need the ignition module from the mk3 engine? as it has been wired straight to the starter motor which I was told is okay as its got a later one on which is similiar to a mk2 one?! The motor electrician that was trying to sort it is a good motor electrician, but not a VW hero like yourself!, and he was confused why its not there and has run out of ideas!
thanks again

to wire it you need a tci loom off a mk1/2 chop the dizzy plug off and splice pin 6 to the mk3 coil red/green wire. the other 2 dizzy pklug wires are unused, and the rest of the tci loom goes back on the same way it was on the mk2. so earth to battery, ignition and trigger wires to the coil + and - respectively.
shouldnt be anywhere near the starter motor though!

the mk3 golf unit has the TCI unit and coil combined, since the TCI modules get very hot the MK3 item is prone to fail thanks to the compact package and its location above the hot exhaust manifold. the MK1/2 unit is located in a nice cool place with a bigger heatsink so rarely fails

the mk3 coil has a 3 pin plug on it and will work fine, though you'll need to run a wire from the -ve terminal; under the flap on the side to your fusebox if you want the rev counter to work
