no fuel being delivered to the injectors.

hi, ive just taken possesion of a 1.6 gti 1982,  its been dry stored for 10 years whilst undergoing body work restoration, problem is the injection system, weve fuel entering the fuel distributer, fuel going to the cold start injector, infact fuel comin out of every outlet on the distributer except for the for injector hoses  , does anybody have any ideas of where the problem lies, i have replaced the fuel distributer with a second hand one and the problem is still the same.i have also invested in a new fuel pump as the old one is very noisey and may not be delivering at the correct pressure , so hoping to try that the weekend ,
could it be the relay? can any one shed any light on this for me. :?  :dontknow:

hi its your injectors fella i had 3 mechanics telling fuel distributer but its varnished petrol and sediment in the injectors them selfs take all 4 out and check for spray pattern.
it should be a cone shape if any trickle juice or nothing comes out there bloked.
buy new or decent secound hand that you know came off a runing car,new ones are around £40 each.dont skimp get new ones but before you fire her up you better replace the petrol tank as this is where the sediment comes from and dont forget put new fuel filter on the same time and she will run bet you.

you should hear a faint buzzing noise under the car fuel pump priming if not check fuel relay.
hope this helps if it does buy me a beer some time.

will definatley change the filter this weekend though.
any ideas are appreciated

If you have fuel as far as the cold start injector then lift the airflap manually by removing the bottom half of the airbox and sticking your hand in there whilst the fuel pump is running (if you're on your own run a wire with a couple of spade connectors on the ends between the 30 and 87-numbered connectors that form part of the fuel pump relay circuit to bridge it and run the pump), this should get some fuel down the braided lines and to the injectors.
If that doesn't do it, then there will be a big problem at the fuel distributor section and it's time for a new fuel distributor/airbox.

Hi

I had a similar problem when I bought a GTi that had stood for about 5 years. There was no fuel coming out of the injectors. Lifting the metering plate however gave them fuel as has already been sugested. After much battling I eventually found that the inlet manifold gasket wasnt sealing, thus allowing the system to suck air instead of creating a vacuum which would lift the plate. A new gasket immediately sorted out the problem. So you may want to check the system for leaks stopping the creation of a good vacuum on the inlet side.

all good advice so far. check all the hoses for leaks/cracks/holes. as said the air flap can just get stuck. it's the movement of the flap that adds extra fuel. the injectors need something like 42psi to open. the 5th injector doesn't if there isn't enough fuel pressure then they will not open. 10 years is a long time to be standing, but the fact you are getting fuel to the 5th suggests the metering head is delivering fuel. likely a sticking flap, if not, probably fuel pressure. take it you emptied the tank and put fresh fuel in?

:D thanks for all ya replies and advice .. we now have fuel and after 10 years she sounds great even with no exhaust ,it was all down to the flap, and a couple of dodgy injectors.  :P , now on the look out for another fuel tank as this one was full of sludge and petrol resemblin pond water,, i got the motor running by makin a seperate fuel tank with fresh juice, ,, cheers every one !!
