MY OWN FAULT!!!!!!

Hi everyone

My Mk1 Golf GTI Cabby took a back seat cos I got a flashy Audi company car, so the rest of what I am about to tell you, I guess I have brought on myself.

After 6 months off the road, I have put my baby back on the road.  Full MOT sailed through with the exception of 2 new tires and a new hose.

Embarked on my 5 hour journey from Cornwall to Kettering, where I now live and realised 30 mins into the journey that it was overheating and losing water.  Turns out, water pump had been over tightened without a gasket and cracked.  Thankfully my step dad is a mechanic and lived nearby so left the car with him to repair whilst I went on to Kettering alone.

Picked the car up yesterday, and after a new cam belt, fan belt, water pump and thermostat switch, it now really struggles to get to 70mph and is such an effort to drive.

Prior to this, the car went like a dream and was sooooooo quick. Given that my step dad did the work and only charged me cost for the parts, I have little grounds to complain.

I am sooooooo depressed that it is running so badly, it just does not suit the car.

It almost feels as though it is missing, but checked leads and plugs and they are fine.  It feels as though there is a blockage somewhere and any moment it could blow through, but sadly it  :( never does.  That is my technical description and may mean absolutely nothing.

Funds are tight at the moment so if anyone has any ideas as to where I could look first, or at least point someone else in the right direction of, I would be absolutely thrilled.

The moral of the story in the meantime……….never neglect your car.  You will suffer.  Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon……….

Helen

That sounds like a classic case of the timing being totally out!!! either that or you have cooked the engine BIG time!! lets hope its the 1st and can be easily sorted by someone with a timing gun and a few spanners :D

the blockage you describe is the engine chocking as with the cam timing different to stroke of pistons it wont be opening the valves in the correct sequence hence it beeing totally gutless and feeling like its blocked……..coz it is in a way!
