my mk1 gti cab cuts out help :cry: HELP HELP HELP

i have a 1.8 gti cab (kjet) keeps cutting out if i leave it on idel runs for 30 min cuts out then. if i try starting it strat away it just turns over but dont fire. if i leave it 5 min and try agine starts 1st time then dose the same agine. thers is fuel in the head and a spark HELP HELP HELP        

Could be a few things but my Caddy Sport (same engine) did that and it was the fuel pump relay

Sounds like contaminated fuel to me??, i.e. rust in the fuel system ?
Normally fuel filler neck rusty.

Entire system needs to be flushed and the contamination sorted, new filler neck?

Welcome to the site Scott.  If you haven't done so already get yourself a Haynes manual as its a great help (brown cover for your cabbie).  

Check the fusebox above the passenger footwell.  Can't remember which one the fuel pump relay (poss no 13) is but pull out each fuse and check for any signs of burning/melting - try not to pull any wires out of the back.  Same thing happended to me as it did to Mark - new relay (and fusebox) and everything was sorted.  If there's no sign of damage there, try sticking a small magnet in the fuel tank (access under rear seats), if you get any debris on the end its probably rust from the filler neck which is clogging up the fuel pipes as Dubstar said.
A good idea would be to search through the Big Block Injection Engines section and you'll find plenty of tips there for your problems.
