Most economical carb setup
Hi,
I have been toying with using carbs with my 16v 2.0 Golf. I will be running the car as a daily and wondered if there was a more eco setup available on carbs?
Ideally I want to do away with the 42 or 50mm inlet manifold and keep everything neat and tidy.
If there is not viable option with the carb, does anybody know or an alternative inlet manifold for the engine? I have seen images of non turbo vehicles running audi inlets.

The most economical setup, is to keep the original K-Jet fuel injection and make sure the car is tuned properly. It will also be the most powerful, what with it having a load (vacuum) connection on the WUR it can go from the lean side of stoich to the rich side.
Beware just swapping the inlet manifold for something else. They're designed to be a certain length for a particular reason - to optimise flow due to Helmholz resonance. By all means if you understand this and can successfully redesign the inlet tract to make it more efficient, do so, but can you show your calculations proving its better?

Thanks for the post.
A friend at work is quite clued up with air flow and we have a flow bench here that we could use. Although he is keen to test a few things, I think I will stay with the simple route. Although I want a tidy engine bay and 'the look', if there isn't an off the shelf solution then I am not going to bother.
It is possible to get a set of carbs and run them with the K-Jet system?

What you really need then is a set of jenvey direct to head throttle bodies and a after market ecu, the bodies look fantastic and if the ecu is set up properly performance /economy is available but not at the same time. Costs though.

Go on then … how much.
I have braced myself so that I don't fall off my seat.

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

Well i sold my unused jenveys for £650, so if you could find something similiar plus second hand ecu or maybe megasquirt just over a thousand should do it especially with megasquirt as lots of maps about for downloading i believe.
