MK1 with Mk2 16V GTI Master Cylinder and Servo

Hi All,

what difference would this make if any to a 1983 mk1 gti? mine has a Mk2 16V GTI Master Cylinder and Servo fitted?

Any advice?

If you look down the left hand side of the home page in the Technical Section there is a guide to brake upgrades - to make it easy - here's the link - its well worth a read.

The Mk1 Golf Owners Club

It makes the brakes feel a bit more modern and that the brakes may actually stop the car. It reduces the length of travel of the brake pedal.

I think if you drive a Mk1 all the time you could / may get used to the standard feel, but I drive other more modern cars on a daily basis and when I jumped in the golf I couldn't get over the length of travel on the pedal and "dead" feel before the brakes came on compared to modern cars.

I upgraded the servo and Master cylinder and then fitted 256mm front discs and calipers of the Mk2 16v (89 onwards) and find the braking much improved.
