mk1 golf gti cab...fuel injection problem-keeps blowin fuses

i have a 1990 mk1 golf gti karmann cab which i rescued last year from someones garage…since then i managed to get it running perfectly but it has had an intermittent fault on the fuel pump relay…i think a loose connection on the board maybe but last weekend it just stopped…i have traced the problem to the no5 fuse on the board which just keeps blowing when you start the engine after about  5 secs..im not sure wether there is another  fuel pump in or near the tank which maybe the cause …can anyone help ????

Just a wild card here, but check the wiring for the O2 sensor. I recall some time back that some people had this wire touch the hot exhaust and caused a fuse to blow all the time.

pal i had this prob few weeks back, i ended up changing the pump fusebox, relays but it turned out to be a short somwhere nr the wur so check the wiring first b4 go start buying stuff.

hi mate had the same problem as mine wasnt a gti . the previous owner had drilled a hole near the tank and routed the wire through and it was chaffing on the burrs of the hole .

u could basicly if u havent got a power probe. is get a length of wire with a 10 amp fuse inline disconect your pump relay and find the feed wire to the pump, live that with the fused wire and if it pops thats your fault u can then replace that wire or trace it back through your car to find the fault,

if that is ok bridge the relay circuit with the same fused wire that is the live and feed wire to your pump  and run the car if that dosent pop i would of thought it was your relay.
